Following the President’s directive of closing schools and tertiary institutions over threats of Coronavirus outbreak, some universities including Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Makerere University are all set for digital (online) learning and tutoring of their students.
Dr. Evarist Nabaasa, the Dean Faculty of Computing and Informatics at Mbarara University today morning confirmed that lecturers and students in the Faculty are in full support of online based teaching which will commence with effect from tomorrow.
The online learning will be facilitated by the Learning Management System (LMS), a system which has over the years, been used by Mbarara University.
However, speaking to Campus Bee, the spokesperson of Kyambogo University, Reuben Twinomuguni says they are yet to consult students to establish whether they have access to internet resources while at home so that their lecturers can join in to continue networking with them online.
“Online learning is a basic requirement for all Universities. And in the same way, Makerere University is embracing the same system and we are taking a move to have classes online” said Muhammed Kiggundu, the spokesperson, Makerere University in support of the move.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni yesterday directed all schools, universities, and technical institutions to temporarily shut down for 32 days effective tomorrow as one of the measures to minimize the spread of coronavirus in the event that it attacks the country.
