Exclusive information reaching Campus Bee indicates that a number of unknown people have been collecting money from various entries into Makerere University claiming to be team members from the convocation.
According to Makerere’s publicity secretary Deus Kamunyu Muhwezi, these groups of people have been targeting both students and the members of the public from various gates. “We have received information that groups of unsuspecting people are extorting money from students and members of the public at various gates of Makerere University and classes in the name of Makerere University Perimeter Wall Project (MUPWP) which is spearheaded by the Makerere University Convocation,” Muhwezi revealed.
Apparently, all people tasked to collect money for the perimeter wall have official identification documents from the convocation signed by Dr Tanga Odoi who is the chairman of Makerere University convocation.
There will be a national wide fundraising later this year after the commissioning of the wall set to happen early November. We have been also informed that police is investigating the brains behind this extortion as the convocation tells Makerere Students to beware.
