It seems the hashtags with the word save [#Save…] will never come to an end in Uganda. Just when citizens are done fundraising to save Carol Atuhirwe, we moved on to save Alice Kinga a student at Makerere University Business School, then to save Kacie a young boy suffering from acute sickle cell anemia. Now, a professor of Literature, Prof. Abasi Kiyimba is also seeking for help and to be saved.
Professor Abasi Kiyimbi the deputy principal of Makerere university’s college of Humanities and Social Sciences is appealing to well wishers to send in donations and contributions for his treatment in South Africa.
The professor who needs Shs 100m is grappling with gastric varices which are dilated submucosal veins in the stomach. It is also a condition resulting from increased pressure in the portal vein system, causing the development of swollen veins or varices in the oesophagus and stomach.
The professor is currently at his home in Bugoba zone, Mukono district, and he is meant to return to Milpark Hospital in South Africa on September 26. Contributions can be made through his office, the Makerere University mosque or Uganda Muslim Youth Association (UMYA) head offices.
