The good news that was spread all over MAK yesterday from Mama Janet the Education Minister hasn’t lasted long. The university council that was set to sit today morning in a meeting at 8am to decide how to run campus with or without the non teaching staff has ended up on its way to State House Entebbe.
The delegates who included the representatives of the non teaching staff aboard a University bus and the university council delegates aboard their private rides are now cruising on Entebbe road to meet President Museveni. The meeting is to be held this afternoon to save Makerere out of this situation that besieged it since 1st august. This entourage that was accompanied by police vehicles left the onlookers in shock as they all had expected the meeting to be held at campus and to resolve all the issues at hand.
On campus, the students especially freshers had already reported to make a step towards starting their journey at university only to be shocked by closed doors. Some were seen stranded at senate building with their mattresses and suit cases as their faces suggested “WHY US?” The others couldn’t help it but stand next to the pockets of Non teaching staff to tap the jazz and know what exactly is the main root cause of this closure.
The situation at MAK remains calm as the students, teaching and the striking non teaching staff await the outcomes of the afternoon meeting at state house with the president. As always, we”ll keep you posted through our twitter updates and upcoming stories just Be Apart of It.
