Until yesterday, Dr. Swizen Kyomuhendo was a little known lecturer at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration (SWASA) in Makerere University.
Fortunately or rather unfortunately, he is now the talk on everyone’s lips country over – thanks to NBS and their investigative journalism section.
Well, things now just keep getting tougher for the academician from the Rwenzori region of Uganda after he received a bomb from the Acting Principal of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences giving him an ultimatum of Thursday 1st March to release a report in response to the allegations made against him.
The Ag Principal Assoc. Prof. Josephine Ahikire cited urgency in response to the matter from the College administration as it is a matter of so much public interest.
“Given the grievous effects of such a report on you as a member of staff, the College and University at large, there is need for an appropriate response from us as a College as soon as possible” the report reads in part.
The Principal’s efforts to hear the lecturer’s side of the story before action is taken is in line with the rules of natural justice that require that everyone is given an opportunity to defend themselves before action is taken so as to avoid numerous court battles challenging the absence of the right to a fair hearing.
