The security week ,organized by the Makerere guild in conjunction with the Uganda police;came down at Makerere Friday evening, with the only man with a vision, Ssabalyanyi, HE YK Museveni.
After waiting for over 3 hours the fountain of Honour arrived, in a tailored suit, white shirt ,YELLOW tie and trademark sombrero hat.
The security was very tight with red tops every where. The theme was all about security and speaker after speaker said something about the insecurity around and in makerere The guild president and his vice talked. The President, charming as ever, eloquent soon turned the NRM zeeeeeeeeeeee booing to claps and ululations.
The President spoke in his parables and cracked some jokes. Before some random student attempted to approach the president… Too late, bad idea, the student was in a flash arrested, trousers yanked high and he was made to walk on his toes in the “Jeekii ” position.
The President promised to increase professor salaries to 15m from 3.5m and to pay the wage Bill of public universities. He reinforced that the 10% tuition increase would be catered for , and he promised to construct a perimeter wall fence around makerere with designated entry and exit points. The President condemned some courses like conflict resolution, development studies, gender studies and instead suggested such courses be made papers in courses like law, engineering. The students were moved by the President and impressed, no doubt. However the day got off to a bad start for KCCA councillor for Makerere, Luyiga Benard who was locked up in vice chancellor’s office.
