Tandeka Brian isn’t exactly a new name to controversy! The hard talking 3 year law student has streak record of engaging in demonstration. Two years ago Campusbee reported the story of Tandeka, he’d chained himself outside a ministers office, demanding payment from the minister who had absconded for over 6 months from paying him for his night watch man duty.
Early this year he was arrested by police mistakenly for engaging in subversive activities. He was later released when police realized he was only an anti- Abortion activist spreading his gospel over a gramophone in slums.
Early yesterday, he staged a one man strike to coincide with the usual banned Tuesday Defiance prayers. Donning the trademark red gown, armed with captioned placards, he stormed the main building in protest.
“Cadre judges are a disgrace to the profession and a menace to the society.” #ResignKavumaResign. Reads one of the placards.
He intimated to this reporter that he was motivated by the Interim order passed by the deputy Chief justice and court of Appeal head; Justice Steven Kavuma to protest.
” I read the interim order but it had no sufficient grounds so as student of law and particularly a human rights activist, I felt I was obligated to act.”
Another placard is a bit scathing! Held by a second year law student; it’s downplays J. Kavuma’s opinion in the Ag vs FDC and Besigye case as devoid of sense and delivered per incuriam. ” Per incuriam is a legal lexicon to mean” wrong decision!” The second year female was identified as Cissy Ssempa, who was unavailable for comment.
Political activism isn’t alien in Makerere university. FDC earlier today took to their facebook page to announce that MAK FDC chapter would run the 5th May Defiance programme within Makerere university.
