UCU goal keeper Steven Makubuya was left injured by disorderly Makerere University home fans as the two sides clashed in the Nile Special University Football League match yesterday.
The incident happened when the disgruntled fans attacked the visiting custodian and winger Amos Magoba were caned and referee David Nsubuga had to end play with 20 minutes on the clock.
By then, UCU were leading 1-0 courtesy of Joram Luzinda’s fourth minute goal. The Makerere fans got out of control and UCU players had to be escorted by Police to their bus amid tension.
Had the match ended with that score, UCU would have secured a quarterfinal place as the result would have tallied nine points after three successive wins.
But the games committee is yet to sit and decide on the fate of Makerere after that avoidable incident.
