It’s the second semester at the Ivory Tower where students with political and leadership abilities put their chances to test.
The electoral committee in the forth coming weeks will start organizing elections from School Committee level to Guild Presidential Level which is the highest held student rank.
The Student fraternity at Makerere however has a culture of pre-announcing their wish to contest for certain positions by painting their names and slogans on campus roads, faculty and halls of residence walls as well as absorbing notice boards with their posters before the designated campaign season.
On such a note, the Dean Kabagambe.M.Cyriaco has issued a note addressed to all students intending to stand for elective positions warning them against such. His letter partly read;
“It has been noted that some students intending to stand for positions in the Guild Leadership have started defacing the environment especially the recently rehabilitated and beautified roads. ”
Through this note, he ordered 4 guild president aspirants to clean up the mess they’ve made of some roads in the university as soon as possible as he wrote;
“The purpose of this Communication is to ask all intending candidates to desist from defacing and/or destroying the university environment/property during the campaigns and to ask the persons named to remove their names from where they’ve been painted”
