Makerere University has turned out to be a trend setter when it comes to fighting against the current constitutional amendment. Despite having a couple of failed attempts to match to parliament & express their discontent to NRM MPs, these patriotic students are not about to give up.
Yesterday left 11 students including their own Guild President Kato Paul behind bars. After a night in the coolers, police has released them and they are back with a bang.
They have now laid a new strategy where they’ll go on a hunger strike until the speaker of parliament declares Amendment of Article 102(b) an undiscussable issue on parliament’s order paper.
“I don’t care whether I die of hunger as long as I am fighting for the brighter future of Uganda,” said one of the students holding a placard that read “HUNGER STRIKE! WE GIVE OUR FOOD TO GREEDY MPs KOGIKWATAKO!”
Makerere has had business and studies come to a stand still last Thursday and yesterday as police fired rubber bullets and used tear gas to disperse the demonstrating students. As we speak, yesterday’s tear gas can still be felt in the Oxygen around the University. A sign that the battle ground is still fresh and the warriors engaging in a re-energizing process.
