Two Makerere University students have made it to the long list of the annual continental Writivism writing short story prize 2016. Acidri Malunga LLB4 and Immaculate Acan Innocent a 3rd year Medicine all made the cut to the long list of Writivism.
Acan Innocent is the reigning winner of 2015 The Gathering writing challenge organised by Denis Asiimwe, a popular online literati and creator of the Denis Asiimwe Notes Facebook group. Her story “Sun Down” made the cut.
Acidri Malunga was excited that his story “The story Not Told.” had made it to the long list of the prestigious Writivism. He intimated too this writer that he was surprised by his appearance on the list.
The Writivism Short Story Prize 2016 long list was announced on Monday. The winner of the prize will be made at the Writivism Festival in August 2016.
The long list for the Writivism Short Story Prize 2016 was selected by a judging panel comprising of Tsitsi Dangarembga who was the chair alongside Richard Ali Mutu, Sumayya Lee, Okwiri Oduor and Mamadou Diallo.
After weeks of reading and deliberating, those in the running for one of the hottest new prizes in African writing are;

The winner of the prize will be announced at the Writivism Festival in August 2016 in Kampala. The winner will get a cash prize and is also likely to take part in a residency at the Stellenbosch University like last years winner Pemi Aguda. There shall also be many openings in World Literature as this prize has been making huge strides to be recognised. This year the prize will be both for English and French stories.
