In as much as over one thousand candidates passed the law pre-entry exam at Makerere University, it is very clear that they cannot all be admitted into the prestigious course. This was made clear at the release of the results where Senate stresses that admission shall base on the number of available slots for the course.
The population of the School of Law currently stands at just over 1,200 from first year to fourth year and this year shall not be any special to attract more students.
Each year has just two classes; one for the Day programme i.e Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm and another for the Evening programme i.e Monday to Friday from 5pm to 9pm and Saturday from 8am to 5pm.
Due to lack of space, the School of Law which by the way has College status rents space in the Senate building to accommodate the first year class since the structures at the School can only accommodate classes of three years only.
It is for such reasons that admission passmark may even hike to 60% for admissions.
If you got 50% in the pre-entry exam, congratulations. However, that alone shall not be enough for you to be admitted and is definately not a guarantee that you have made it to the School of Law.
Usually, about 50 students earn the highly coveted government sponsorship on Law and those on private have to be the about 350 others to be chosen among A-level leavers, diploma holders, degree holders and mature age entrants to make one class for the particular year of admission.
