Last month, we ran a story about Dr. Mwavu Edward Nector a MAK lecturer from the school of Forestry who lost his phone as 2nd year Tourism and 3rd year Forestry students were handing in their concept notes in his office.
It has however turned out to be that the phone was not a Samsung but an HtC one Desire as alleged by the accused students.
This phone that’s equivalent to iPhone 6 costs over 1.8miion shillings and Dr.Mwavu says he bought it exclusively from Dubai. According to sources close to Campus Bee, the embattled lecturer has eye-marked one of the phones at Acacia Mall and from there, he set conditions for the students:-
1.They either collect money, shs5,000 each and buy the phone from Acacia as the last piece on stock still lasts.
OR
2.They collect the money coupled with transport, he travels to Dubai and buys the phone himself.
Lest, he will not accept their dissertations at the end of the course which is tantamount to missing graduation.
With 140 second year tourism students, so far, a few if not none has paid up the shs5,000 ransom fee (as they termed it).
Being many, most tourism students are hesitant to pay claiming it’s too much money for them. One even exclaimed “Can you imagine the rollas (rollexes) in that 5bob” for sure it’s a sacrifice.”
The ball remains in the hands of the students; to either sacrifice the rollas or miss graduation- the lecturer is hellbent on getting ‘his’ phone back.
