The Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has sponsored 200 students to participate in the coming MakRun 2018. The Run will take place on Sunday 25th March 2018 and will be flagged off by, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Ow’ekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga who is also an alumnus of the University at 7:00am in the Makerere University Freedom Square.

The Makerere University Endowment Run (MakRun) is geared towards mobilizing funds for the construction of a Students’ Centre worth UGX 15 billion to enhance the quality of student life and experience. Addressing journalists during the Makerere University Vice Chancellor’s Monthly Briefing on Friday 16th March 2018, Prof. Nawangwe said that the Centre will serve as a collective place that reflects dynamism of the 21st century student in the digital age. It will be a one stop Student Information centre with a state of the art Auditorium worth 2000 seating capacity and Wall of Fame.
The proposed Mak Students Centre will also accommodate Conference facilities, Cafeterias, Internet Kiosk, Memorabilia Shop, Bookshop, Recreational Sports Arena (pool, chess, table tennis, and gym), Entertainment and Social Areas,” he said.

Prof. Nawangwe applauded the College Principals who have enormously contributed to the initiative by sponsoring 100 students per college to participate in the Run. He also appreciated the staff, students, gallant alumni and members of the general public who have supported the initiative. He called upon each and every one who would love to see great developments at Makerere University to join the Katikkiro of Buganda as he contributes towards the noble cause.
“Tickets for the Run cost UGX15,000 for students and UGX25,000 and UGX 50,000 for alumni and well-wishers. They are sold at several centres including the Planning and Development Department, Makerere University Printery, Makerere University Guest House, the 10 Colleges of Makerere University, and Piato Restaurant, along Lumumba Avenue. We are again rallying your support for this noble cause, by urging all of you to warm up and get ready to participate in the MakRun 2018. Come and we make a change,” he said.

Last year, Makerere University Endowment Fund organised its first ever Makere University Endowment Run (MakRun). officially flagged off by Hon. Rebecca Kadaga; the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, the inaugural run convened thousands of people including staff, students, gallant alumni and members of the general public. A sum of UGX 247,845,000 (two hundred forty seven million eight hundred forty five thousand Uganda Shillings) was raised from the Run, both in cash and pledges.
