Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof John Dumba Sentamu has directed his deputy and officer in charge of academics Prof Ernest Okello Ogwang to have a sick leave from University duties to help him nurse his problem of alcoholism.

Ddumba says that Prof. Ernest Okello has on many occasions failed to attend crucial meetings, supervise and restructure academic programmes plus submitting in examination results on time and has consequently presented himself in public while below the standards expected of a deputy vice chancellor. Ddumba, asked Ogwang  to take a sick leave from work and receive medical attention to overcome this problem.

In his reply however, Prof Ernest Okello says many times several meetings have been scheduled to start at the same and he can’t be all over the place, hence delegating some of his subordinate’s. He says alcohol has never been an issue to him even though time and again complaints of his drinking habits have been raised over the years.
