Makerere University 73rd Graduation will take place next week from February 13-17 at the Freedom Square.
One of the takeaways however is the fact that the organizing committee will prohibit guests from accessing the venue with phones.
The Academic Registrar’s office has today confirmed the move by listing phones amongst prohibited items during the week-long ceremony.
The list includes cameras, backpacks, canned food and drinks amongst many others as quoted below;

Graduations are often marred by emotional moments that loved ones would wish to capture on camera and hold on for the foreseeable future. Classifying phones as prohibited items may not sit well with all stakeholders.
Hypothetically, among other reasons, the university hopes to eliminate the divided attention brought about by phone users that often disorganizes events.
It is yet to be known how efficiently this decision will be implemented as thousands look forward to flooding the Freedom Square with accessories to document the special occasion.
