As part of the centennial celebrations series, Makerere University is set to celebrate the lifetime achievements of renown novelist Timothy Wangusa.
Professor Timothy Wangusa, Makerere University’s first Doctorate of Philosophy graduate will be honoured in a literary event scheduled for Friday July 8th, 2022 at the institution’s Yusuf Lule teaching facility.
The ‘Upon this Mountain’ author will be celebrating his birthday on the same date. The event will be both physical and online through zoom.
Mwambu Cradle Publishers will launch four of Professor Wangusa’s books at the event and these are;
- Lost in wonder (autobiography)
- Niyaanga Nelaliita (autobiography in lumasaaba)
- I love you, you beast (Spoken reflections on faith and literature 1968-2009)
- Pathfinders’ footprints (Makerere University’s 1st Phd 1975)
Timothy Wangusa is a seminal writer and a pivotal figure in the life of the Department of Literature and Makerere University where he served selflessly from 1969-2001.
Wangusa was the first Ph.D graduate in the Department of Literature after Makerere became an independent university in 1970.
The celebration is in recognition of the importance of Wangusa’s service to Makerere and his outstanding contribution to Uganda, East Africa and to Africa’s literary history.
Makerere University will be commemorating 100 years of existence this year 2022, and a series of pre-events are ongoing -Timothy Wangusa’s celebratory literary event being one of them.
