The Makerere University international humanities conference came to an end on August 26th, 2022 after four days of in-depth debate and discussion on humanities.
The conference was closed up with a heated debate on challenges encountered in journalism and performing arts, with students being encouraged to work hard to beat the odds.
A number of prominent scholars in both fields such as Alex Mukulu, Sherinah Namata, Professor John Munene, Goretti Kyomuhendo, carol Beyanga among others graced the conference’s closing session.
The humanities conference that began on August 23rd, 2022 aimed at celebrating the roles humanities play in nation building.
The conference celebrated the proud Gikuyu writer Ngugi wa Thiongo whose writings are a source of pride to his alma mater Makerere University.
Professor Umar Kakumba, the deputy vice chancellor in charge of academic affairs at Makerere University, in his closing remarks, thanked the college of humanities and social sciences for having organized a colourful conference to celebrate humanities.
He further appreciated the role humanities play in holding administrators accountable, saying that it aids improvement.
The conference was based on the theme ‘knowledge revolution and practices; area cultural and global studies’.
The international humanities conference was part of the Makerere University centennial pre-celebratory series.
Makerere University will celebrate a hundred years of existence and contribution to humanity in October 2022.
