Professor Nakanyike Musisi, a lecturer at University of Toronto, Canada has hailed the humanities for the role they play in nation building.
While speaking at the International Humanities Conference 2022 held at Makerere University, Professor Nakanyike said sciences can’t solely succeed in developing country.
According to her, humanities are the foundation that a nation needs – scientists inclusive, in order to propel towards development.
However, Professor Nakanyike says humanities are still lagging behind because colonialists didn’t give us education of liberation; and most learners don’t know the purpose of studying humanities.
Professor Nakanyike’s remarks are contrary to those of President Museveni who has overtime hailed sciences, fronting them as the lead nation builders.
Through the international humanities conference, Makerere University is celebrating humanities and her alumni that have excelled in the sphere.
The conference is organized under the theme ‘knowledge revolution and practices: area, cultural and global studies’.
The international humanities conference is part of the Makerere centennial pre-celebratory series.
Makerere University will celebrate 100 years of existence and contribution to humanity in October 2022.
