Makerere University, in a bid to honour humanities, organized a four-day international humanities conference at which prominent scholars have hailed the arts.
University of Michigan’s Professor Derek Peterson is one of the scholars that have been lined up at the conference so far.
Professor Derek graced day three of the international humanities conference at Makerere University on August 24th, 2022 as keynote speaker.
In his presentation, Professor Derek Peterson gave an elaborative background of the Rwenzururu Kingdom, and the crisis thereafter.
At the end of his presentation, Professor Derek Peterson advocated for the freedom of Rwenzururu’s Omusinga Charles Mumbere.
Omusinga Charles Mumbere, together with 203 royal guards, was captured and subjected to house arrest following the 2016 clashes.
About Professor Derek Peterson
Professor Derek Peterson is a tutor of history and African studies at University of Michigan, USA.
He is an editor at Mawazo and board member of the African Studies Association (UK).
Peterson is known for having organized the Uganda government archives and aided in the digitization of an enormous collection of photographic negatives held by Uganda Broadcasting Corporation in 2017 and 2018.
The Makerere University international humanities conference is organized under the theme ‘knowledge revolution and practices; area cultural and global studies’.
The conference is part of the Makerere University centennial pre-celebratory series.
