Gongom is a prestigious sculpture found at the entrance of Makerere University’s Lumumba hall.
The sculpture is usually dressed in a gown, with a condom placed on its long tarse to remind Lumumba hall residents to protect themselves while playing adult games.
One may wonder why Gongom was sculptured in such a way that his tarse is extremely long.
According to General Elly Tumwine, one of the former residents of Lumumba hall, the long tarse came as a result of the capture of the former Gongom sculpture that was smaller in size. Its believed the sculpture had been captured by Mitchell hall residents at the time.
Lumumba hall residents then decided to have a ‘bigger’ Gongom with a belief that he would be in position to scare off the enemies when they attacked next.
The new Gongom sculpture was given a long tarse to scare off the enemies.
“Let’s give Gongom a real height, long penis. So he is in charge of this place,” General Tumwine said in his Mak at 100 story.
According to General Elly Tumwine, the claim that a security guard called Gongom was killed thus the sculpture’s name is mythical.
As Makerere University nears the centennial celebrations, several institution’s alumni continue to share their experiences at the great institution.
