Sam Ninsiima, a former student of Makerere University has written an open letter to President Museveni protesting the shortlisting of Prof. William Bazeyo for the highly coveted Makerere University Chancellor position.
“Your Excellency, kindly allow me inform you of the undeservedly selection of Mr. William Bazeyo for Chancellorship and the syndicate associated with the appointment of leaders at Makerere University. What used to be a merit-based system has been replaced with manipulation and interests of individuals in the Council motivated by power and money. The key question to ponder is what is the future of Education under the National Resistance Movement?” Ninsiima began his letter.
Mr. Ninsiima, earlier on in 2020, petitioned to the Search Committee for the Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration (DVC F&A) when Mr. William Bazeyo was preparing to offer himself for the office.
The petitioners alleged that he had a fake PhD from Atlantic International University and got the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to pronounce itself on the matter clearly stating that qualifications from the said university were not recognized as it wasn’t accredited.
The Makerere University council recently recommended Bazeyo and Eng. Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem to the President to select one as a Chancellor of Makerere University. Among the interested contenders, Dr. Victoria Sekitoleko a former Minister of Agriculture was dropped by the University Council, while Prof. Jack H. Pen-Mogi Nyeko the former Vice Chancellor of Gulu University did not make it to the shortlist.
“How can someone with a questionable academic documents be shortlisted while two candidates with credible academic records and have served the nation with distinction be dropped?” Ninsiima ponders in his letter.
He ended his letter asking the President to institute an inquiry into the qualifications of academic qualifications of Professors and Associate Professors and the general University Management at Makerere University arguing that it will save a lot of tax payers money the government is spending on those holding questionable/fake professorship academic positions.
Efforts to reach Prof Bazeyo for a comment were futile as our calls went answered up to the time of filing this article.
