Makerere University students under their Inter-party Coalition organized an Anti-Museveni rally yesterday.
This was held at the School of Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) where they opposed what they termed as ‘dictatorship of President Museveni’. Clad in red t-shirts with slogans “M7 Must Go” and “Enough is Enough”, the students claimed they were fed up with the NRM regime and being a representative portion of students in Uganda, they would take the mantle to set the pace.
The coalition consists of members of the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and others that members referred to as the good National Resistance Movement (NRM).
“Prof. Nawangwe is just a mere representation of the broader problem”, Allan Mutagubya, a first-year student said at the rally.
The rally was graced by influential political figures that are and were affiliated to the university like Simon Wanyera, Doreen Nyanjura, LC V woman Councillor for Makerere University and the Forum for Democratic Change women’s league spokesperson, Sarah Eperu.
“This political rally was approved by police. However, to our astonishment, the police swung into action and arrested people,” said Martin Musiime.
The arrested were detained and charged for holding an illegal assembly and inciting violence.
