Makerere University will reopen for Semester Two of the 2025/2026 Academic Year on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, following an adjustment to the academic calendar in line with government directives on the reopening of educational institutions.
According to a memorandum issued by the Office of the Academic Registrar and dated January 19, 2026, the University Council approved the revised schedule after the Ministry of Education and Sports announced changes to the national school calendar due to the general elections.
The memo, signed by Academic Registrar Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, states that Semester Two will officially commence on February 10 and run until June 6, 2026. The university has also circulated a detailed adjusted semester calendar to guide staff and students in planning for teaching, learning, and assessment activities.
Makerere University management urged both staff and students to take note of the new dates and prepare accordingly, emphasizing the need for a smooth and orderly resumption of academic activities.
The reopening directive applies to all colleges and academic units of the university and aligns Makerere’s schedule with the national framework issued by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
The university had earlier suspended physical academic activities as part of nationwide adjustments linked to the electoral period. With the revised calendar now in place, Makerere becomes one of the latest public universities to confirm firm reopening dates.
Students and staff have been advised to regularly check official university communication channels for any further updates or clarifications regarding the semester programme.
