The Makerere University Convocation chairman, Dr Tanga Odoi, on Thursday Morning Breeze show on NBS Television suggested that Makerere University re-opening should not be rushed.

“We want a commission of inquiry. We don’t need to hurry to reopen Makerere- even if it means to close [Makerere] for four months. Govt should take over total wage bill. Makerere issue is national. It affects a number of people, including the non-teaching staffers who’re not on strike.

Those who went through Makerere should come back and help in finding solutions . An audit is also needed.”

The former chairperson Makerere University Academic Staff Association (Muasa) welcomed the President’s directive of closing the biggest public university in Uganda, saying it was the best thing to do.
