Makerere University debating team under the Makerere Debating Union (MDU) has today revealed to the entire community about its last month’s modest achievement.
“MDU is proud to inform the public that recently, Makerere University was excellently represented at the Olympia Debate Championship 2022. Our team was the only Ugandan team that proceeded to the finals and four of the top ten speakers in the tournament were from @Makerere,” the union Tweeted.
Makerere Debating Union team consisted;
- Fortunate Okello Samuel – 2nd best speaker.
- Lawel Muhwezi Joshua – 5th best speaker
- Edoru Stephen Martin – 6th best speaker
- Angelo Sewanonda – 9th best speaker
The outstanding performance of Fortune Okello and Lawel Muhwezi in the tournament earned them a place at the African Nations Debate League scheduled for later this year which will see Africa’s best debaters from all countries converge for a debate championship.
MDU leadership represented by the Speaker and Director Debate handed over the Certificate of Outstanding Achievement in the Oympia Invitational Debate Championship 2022 and the overall championship trophy won in the ITAW Debate to the University Dean of Students.
