Makerere University Professor, Dr Rhoda Wanyenze who doubles as the Dean School of Public Health (SPH) has been appointed to the board of World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Advisory Group for Pandemic Influenza Preparedness.
Specialized in infectious diseases research, Prof. Wanyenze has served at the Makerere University School of Public Health since 2008 before being appointed as the dean in 2017, replacing Professor William Bazeyo.
In a congratulatory message, Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe hailed the giant academician upon her new appointment.
“I congratulate Professor on being appointed to boards of GAVI and the WHO Global Advisory Group for Pandemic Influenza Preparedness,” Prof Nawangwe said in a tweet.
“Thank you for making Makerere proud,” he added.
Prof Wanyenze attained her undergraduate education at Makerere University in human medicine, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree. After a number of years working with the UPDF, she went back to Makerere University for the Master of Public Health program, graduating in 2002.
In 2010, she was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by the University of Antwerp in Belgium.
