The Makerere University Electoral Commission has released a final list of duly nominated candidates for the guild presidency position. A list of six names was sent to the Academic Registrar Alfred Masikye Namoah for Academic Standing confirmation but only four candidates were nominated.
The nominated candidates are; Judith Nalukwago, Oguttu Aaron, Mutabarura Jackson, and Joseph Tumusiime. Dickson Muhwezi and Mugerwa Jimmy were dropped after failing to meet the required academic qualifications.
According to the EC Chairperson, Twijukye Jackson, aspiring candidates are required to have no missing marks/retakes, among other qualifications.
Earlier this week a Certificate of Academic Standing signed by the Makerere University Academic Registrar leaked and it indicated that Muhwezi, one of the candidates had a missing mark in one paper.
Muhwezi, who is a third year Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences student had contested under the ruling party (NRM) ticket and many students had hopes of securing the bag during this year’s guild campaigns. Nominated candidates are now expected to kick off virtual campaigns which will be conducted on media platforms like TVs, radio as well as social media.
Students will vote for their new guild leaders on 30th April 2021 in an electronic/physical voting, according to EC.
