Makerere University held its long waited Guild elections.
Students at the great institution participated in the first ever virtual election today, November 30, as they voted for their new leaders.
It was a day to remember for a one Alionzi Lawrence Dangote who emerged the winner to become the 88th Guild president.
8 candidates were been duly nominated to contest in the university’s 88th guild election.
They included Alionzi Lawrence, Ibra Hussein, Ronald Mugisha, Carlton Muyinda, Edward Nalwangu, Honesty Natumanya, Blessious Namirembe and Justus Tukamushaba.
The university council resolved to conduct guild elections online after a student was stabbed to death during the final rally in July.
Alionzi carries on the National Unity Platform’s (NUP) tradition of scooping the top students’ seat in Makerere for the 4th year in a row.
He succeeds Shamim Nambassa from the same political party.
