As Makerere University prepares to kick off this year’s guild elections, we have learned that the university’s electoral commission team has already taken up its duties officially. The swearing in ceremony has come following last week’s management emergency meeting that approved electoral reforms set to be followed this year.
More details indicate that the office of the Dean of Students has today morning invited the EC elects to raise the holy books after being elected a month ago. Shortly After swearing in, the Electoral Commission team led by Jackson Twijukye (Chairman) vowed to serve the university by organising free and fair elections.
The team further promised to kick off massive mobilization of voters in a bid to increase this year’s voter’s turn up. It should be recalled that very few students voted in last year’s guild elections, something that raised eyebrows.
Ahead of the guild campaigns expected to run for only ten days, the fresh Electoral Commission has promised to release the road map of this year’s campaigns as early as possible.
Below is the full list of the newly sworn in electoral commissioners.
Jackson Twijukye – Chairman
Akatukwasa Lillian – Vice Chairperson
Mufano Heritier – General Secretary
Lule Huzaifah – Finance
