Since the start of last week, Makerere students, through various platforms, have been complaining about delayed issuing of IDs for freshers, marks for continuing students and transcripts for the current graduates. This prompted a letter from the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s Office (F&A) addressing the issue. However, this letter was seen as not specific by most students. The Academics Minister, Wanyera Simon, then sent a letter demanding for a more explicit algorithm and dates; giving the office an ultimatum of Tuesday 2nd at 5pm, that or else he would headline a demonstration the next day: The Red Wednesday.
The office then sent a letter to the guild president, slating the issuance of IDs for Thursday 4th, starting with the populous School of Education, which is the school for the said Academics Minister and the Guild President. The exercise will then continue to other colleges.
Our ears are still on the ground, regarding the marks and transcripts.
