The latest information reaching our news desk indicates that a first-year student of Makerere university collapsed last evening after being conned 2 million shillings meant for tuition. This fresher has been identified as Raymond Okot, a 25-year-old student from Adjumani District.
Okot collapsed in front of Nkrumah Hall shortly after returning from Post Bank, Makerere branch.
He regained consciousness at around 8pm. Okot said on his sick bed at the university hospital that he went to Post bank to deposit his tuition fees when an unidentified man claiming to be a lecturer offered to assist him bank the money and vanished in thin air.
This incident comes few days to the official orientation ceremony of Makerere’s freshers an event where the University management tips new students on how to avoid such incidents. More horrible things have been happening to Makerere freshers as one fresher was seriously beaten last night and was left covered in blood on his way from Mitchellex Bazaar.
