Makerere University Chief Security Officer, ACP Kasimo Thomas has warned students against mob injustices and other forms of indiscipline in the university. Addressing over 10,000 freshers on 27th August 2015 during the freshers’ orientation in Makerere University Freedom Square, Kasimo said that mob injustice is a disgraceful act which can lead to even more insecurity in the community.
“So many people have mistaken mob injustice to be a form of justice and assuch, many people have fallen victim to this problem,” he said.
Kasimo therefore advised the students to always cooperate with the police in case of any criminal case and also avoid taking measures of punishing the criminal without the police’s consent.

“I should clearly state that as the Chief Security Officer of Makerere University; I boldly condemn the acts of mob injustices. These actions have widely led to the spread ofmany forms of indiscipline in the institutions which have disrupted our security. I therefore advise the students to always report to the police in case they are suspicious about people around them. Please do not take any other action,” he warned.
He also advised students to desist from any unlawful activity such as participating in and mobilising strikes, demonstrations, riots since these might lead them to prison as well as being dismissed from the university.

This year Makerere University admitted approximately 20,000 students compared to the 40,000 students who applied. The Makerere University Academic Registrar Mr. Alfred Masikye Namoah congratulated the students upon having made it to Makerere University and assured them that they have made the right choice to join the best university in East Africa. He however cautioned students to pay proper attention to the rules and regulations governing the university.
“As a student of Makerere you have obligations and among these is the issue of paying tuition and all the functional fees so as to enable the smooth running of the university. I therefore advise you to always be careful when paying fees. Make sure you register the correct registration and students’ numbers to avoid the possibilities of bouncing fees,” he said.
