On 22nd January, the Ag. University Bursar Makerere University Lubowa Gyaviira, addressed a letter to government students informing them that their allowances will be given effective 31st January. This was due to a delay in the process as it required approval by relevant organs of the University and Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic.
However there was delay on the payments and yesterday the Ag. Makerere University Secretary Yusuf Kiranda addressed another letter to the student body informing them about the payment of the allowances which is to take place earlier next week.
The student body isn’t pleased as the food allowance is to be paid in half and not full as they expected. There are a lot of complaints coming from the students as they anticipated that the delay meant the university was collecting enough funds to complete the allowances.
Some of the student leaders have also promised to take further action as they demand explanation for the incomplete payment and a date to be communicated when the allowances will be fully given to the students.
Below is the letter addressed to the government students about their allowances.
