Makerere University’s new Guild President Robert Maseruka has come up with a proposal to help final year students graduate after doing supplementary exams in case they have retakes.
Maseruka suggested the initiative during an interview with NTV following his recent victory to become the 89th Guild President.
In his argument, the proposed system of supplementary exams would enable final-year students to retake their exams during the six months preceding their graduation.
The Guild President believes that it is unjust to require students to wait an entire year to retake an exam.
“A student in their final year, final semester do not have to wait for a full year for them to recover a retake or a missing paper. It is frustrating to subject one to frustration for a full year yet the issue can be resolved in time and they graduate,” he stated.
Many a time, students miss out on the ‘tent’ because of pending academic clearances like missing marks, retakes, course works without an alternative solution.
With Maseruka’s suggestion, if implemented, the number of graduands will rise since many students in the past have been victim of the complacent rules.
The Guild President elect will soon be sworn in and try as much as possible to execute his manifesto.
