In a letter dated 8th June, the Makerere University Guild President, Kateregga Julius called upon the entire students’ fraternity of Makerere University especially interns and recess term students to gather at Freedom Square tomorrow, Tuesday 11th June.
According to Kateregga, the university officials have turned a deaf ear to the mentioned category of students who are apparently entitled to allowances. In his explanation, the university’s silence has left them (students) with no other alternative but to speak (strike) the language that everyone understands.
“Take note that the responsible university officials have turned a deaf ear to all our endeavors in the request for the above allowances and hence left us with no avenue for dialogue,” Kateregga’s letter reads in part.
The People Power-leaning leader goes ahead to reveal that their presence at the Freedom Square will persuade the concerned officials to listen to their demands.
It is said that most government-sponsored students who are entitled to internship allowances have not received a single coin, despite the daily financial challenges met at their internship places.
Below is Kateregga’s full letter.
