Former Makerere guild presidents Ivan Bwowe and Roy Ssemboga, in a show of solidarity joined Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine on his campaign trail for the Kyadondo East MP slot that will be filled on the 29th of this month.
The two, who were all aligned to the Democratic Party chapter of Makerere University have therefore chosen to support an independent candidate.
The stunt however has not gone down well with some University students who say it was demeaning of their institution.
“Supporting is not bad but the problem comes in when they kneel. Moreover, to people who look up to them,” one student lamented on a social media platform.
Bobi Wine has been a close associate of the Makerere students’ guild and it partly explains why these former leaders have come in to support him. Bobi Wine has always spearheaded the annual Face of MUK project which this year was aimed at sensitization and awareness of breast cancer.
Some section of students believe that is why the leaders could defy odds and show him some love on his campaign.
The firebase maestro has really invested alot of time and resources in this campaign that analysts say may turn out successful for him. He is said to appeal more to the common man in the constituency and is a living example of “change for the better” given his background.
He has also received moral support from his family as he is often seen trotting with his wife Barbie Itungo in a typical Obama style.
