Makerere guild speaker Jothan Yamureebire Burubuto, is the new Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA) President, Campus Bee can authoritatively confirm.
Burobuto won comfortably with a range of 36 votes as he polled 123 votes with his closest rivals Abu Baker and Bukyana Julius getting 87 and 86 votes respectively.
In a similar manner, Makerere University Vice Guild President and former guild president aspirant Lakisa Mercy Faith also won the vice presidency slot for UNSA.
Lakisa’s win however was a landslide as she almost doubled her closest rival’s votes.
Mavious Kukunda of Uganda Christian University (UCU) came second in the vice presidency race with 45 votes as compared to Lakisa’s 124.
The Speakership was highly contested but Mbarara University of Science and Technology’s Alfred Ongwen polled 129 ahead of Morris Ogwal who got 100.
Ongwen replaces Imran Kasujja who has been leading the organisation for handover and the election itself.

The other winners include Kyambogo University’s Sarah Kansiime who was elected the new General Secretary, Shadia Bayiga of Makerere University who became the Finance Secretary and Campus Bee’s Clare Nassuna of Gulu University who was voted the new Secretary for Information and Publicity.
