Makerere University has kicked off with training academic staff on the various methods lecturers can use to develop and put up learning material which is to be shared with students all across different Colleges.
This move comes as a way to enable continued learning during the current Universities lockdown since the fate of resumption for education institutions across the country still remains unknown.
Makerere Top Management met via a virtual meeting and agreed to set up a committee to effectively steer the adoption of online learning.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs, Dr Umar Kakumba noted that University has formulated long terms on the matter and that they are set to activate digital learning.
“At least we have a starting point. With this, we are going to ensure that staff develops content that will be accessed by all learners. This is just for now. We are still developing a detailed plan which will lead to consistent e-learning at Makerere,” said Dr Kakumba.
Last month, Makerere Top Management came into a partnership with Major Telecom companies including MTN Uganda, Airtel to zero rate major university websites to enable students access resources at no cost.
