Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe and Kyambogo counterpart Prof Eli Katunguka have today flagged off students from respective institutions to China to participate in an ICT competition.
The students will be representing Uganda in the Huawei Global ICT competitions 2022/2023 that will be held in China.
“Today, I flagged off 6 @Makerere university students and their instructor to China, these shall be representing Uganda in the Huawei Global ICT competitions 2022/2023. These topped Africa in the computing track and network track (Datacom, Security & WLAN) by taking the grand and first prize respectively,” Prof Nawangwe tweeted.
Kyambogo VC followed suit with a relatable announcement.
The participants will leave for Shenzhen China, Huawei’s headquarter for a final that is to host over 60 countries and 213 teams, from southern Africa, Northern Africa, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Latin America and ME&CA.
It should be remembered that a team of ICT students from Makerere University emerged winners of this year’s Huawei ICT Africa competition grand prize in Computer Track and first prize in Network track in an event held in South Africa.
Coming second in position for the network track was Kyambogo University, followed by Gulu and Kabale University in third spot.
Uganda had six representing teams (from different universities) out of which four qualified for the global stage of the competition slated to take place in China come May 2023.
