Makerere University has announced a significant scholarship opportunity targeting first-year female students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The sponsorship offers complete tuition and functional fee waivers for the 2025/2026 academic year.
This initiative, managed by the university’s Gender Mainstreaming Directorate, represents a major investment in promoting female education at Uganda’s premier institution.
Recipients will receive coverage for tuition, functional fees, feeding, accommodation, and other essential learning necessities required during their study period.
Eligibility criteria focus specifically on supporting the most vulnerable female students while maintaining academic standards.
Applicants must be Ugandan nationals from genuinely disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds who have gained admission to Makerere University Main Campus or Jinja Campus for the 2025/2026 academic year under the Direct Entry Scheme.
The program also requires that applicants not hold any other scholarships and be willing to participate in selection processes determined by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate Scholarship Committee.
Uniquely, applicants must also provide hand-drawn physical maps showing directions to their homes or residences, along with clear road indicators and approximate distances in kilometers.
Interested students can access application forms free of charge from the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate at Senate Building, Level 4, Room 402, or download copies from the university website.
The application deadline is set for Monday, August 8th, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., giving eligible students several weeks to prepare their submissions.
