Brian Bakampa, a Bachelor’s of Law graduate from Makerere University was arrested and earned a night in jail after he walked to the State House in an appeal to acquire food from H.E the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Bakampa, having received no response to a letter he wrote to the president through his Facebook Page seeking sustenance through the lockdown period, decided to walk to State House in Nakasero from his rental along Entebbe road, to personally seek audience with president on his cause, like he had notified to do if his letter ‘fell on the rocks’
“At the State House main gate, I stated my purpose to security officers there, and they told me that offices here were generally closed and I couldn’t get help. They instead advised me to go to the Presidents’ office at Parliament,” Bakampa explains.
When Bakampa was ordered to leave the grounds of the offices, Bakampa didn’t but camped at the road going to the same offices which likely attracted a lot of attention from the security officers where he was arrested, and taken Central Police Station.
Having spent a night behind bars, Bakampa’s former classmates came to his rescue the following morning. They mobilised and sent someone to stand for him on police bond which was fortunately, granted.
