A Ugandan legal scholar has been appointed to a prestigious advisory board at the University of Leeds in the UK, placing her at the centre of international discussions shaping the future of business and corporate law.
Dr Winnie Tarinyeba Kiryabwire, an Associate Professor at Makerere University School of Law, will serve on the Advisory Board of the Centre for Business Law and Practice (CBLP), alongside leading global academics and professionals.
A recognised expert in corporate, banking, and insolvency law, Dr Tarinyeba brings over 20 years of professional experience to the role.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University, a Master of Laws from Cambridge, and both a Master of the Science of Law and a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) from Stanford Law School, where she was also a SPILS Fellow. She also holds a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in Kampala.
At Makerere, Dr Tarinyeba teaches courses including Corporate Finance Law, Corporate Governance, Law of Banking, and the Law of Business Associations.
Beyond academia, she is a Commonwealth and Fulbright Scholar, a Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences, and a certified director with the British Institute of Directors. She also serves as an independent director on boards across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors.
Her international profile is strengthened by fellowships at the World Bank, Stanford, and Cambridge, as well as memberships in global professional bodies such as INSOL International, the International Insolvency Institute, and the Singapore Global Restructuring Initiative.
Confirming her appointment, Dr Tarinyeba said she was “honoured to join the advisory board of the Centre for Business Law and Practice” and eager to contribute to its global mission.
The CBLP described her as a “valuable addition” to the board, which already includes experts from Norton Rose Fulbright, the OECD, UNIDROIT, and the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority.
