Makerere University law school is investigating circumstances under which over 100 students sat end of semester two examinations without exam permits.
The law school has summoned at least 104 students to appear before the examinations, irregularities and appeals committee on Monday, June 24th, 2024.
These are being probed over sitting exams without clearing tuition to zero balance as per the university guidelines. The students are suspected to have unlawfully accessed the examination rooms with fake permits.
According to Makerere University examination regulations, students, upon paying tuition to zero balance, are required to print and present examination permits in order to be permitted to sit their exams.
Whoever breaches the examination guidelines is subjected to a disciplinary ruling. However, the law is not clear on the fate of those that sit exams without permits.
The Makerere Law school has always taken the lead in law enforcement. The fate of the summoned students will be determined next week.
The Bee learnt that this is not the first time students are sitting exams without clearing tuition. However, the new administrators at the law school are doing their best to implement the law.
