“This is to inform the Public that the Main Gate is closed for further construction works. We advise you to use the Eastern and Western Gates of Makerere to access the University.” A statement from Makerere University reads.
The construction of this high-level gate and nearby roads was funded by the World Bank group through Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) as the client of this multi-million project. The project was contracted to China Railway Seventh Group as the main contractors with consultative expertise from Korea Engineering Consultation Corp.
It is not yet clear whether construction will be finalized before the university re-opens for the next academic year kicking off in August.
