Two Makerere University students were Monday July 18 (Yesterday) evening arrested by Uganda Police under suspicion of having participated in the guild campaign rally violence on Jul 14, that claimed life of Betungura Bewatti who was a second year law student at Uganda Christian University.
The duo include Oloo Simon Harnest and Margaret Ibila pursuing Bachelor of Information Systems and Technology and Bachelor of Biomedical Laboratory Technology respectively.
Oloo and Ibila are both residents of Kare hostel in Kikoni, and at the time of their arrest, they were picked by police from the hostel.
According to a letter issued by Dr. Justine Namaalwa, the Master Card foundation coordinator where the two scholars belong said that the two were in Cohort five under their sponsorship.
“Two of our students of Cohort 5 were arrested last evening by Uganda Police,” she stated.
Three people were earlier arrested, Hon. Frank Kabuye, and two Makerere Students Muzafaluh Kabuulwa and Allan Ssekidde who were arrested by police in the immediate aftermath of the violence that escalated into stabbing of Betungura.
The scuffle that ensued the violence happened between two political party supporters of FDC and NUP on the evening of Thursday, Jul 14, 2022.
