Today, 2nd October 2024, in a significant ceremony at Makerere University, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga was officially installed as the new Chancellor, succeeding Prof. Ezra Suruma.
Dr. Kiyonga expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for appointing him, and emphasized his commitment to strengthening the relationship between Makerere University, the central government, and Ugandan communities.
During the event, President Museveni also officially opened the Ivory Tower, the iconic main building of Makerere University, which had undergone restoration.
He was accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, and the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. John Chrysestom Muyingo, among other dignitaries.
The ceremony was marked by both celebration and reflection on Makerere’s critical role in Uganda’s educational landscape.
Dr. Crispus Kiyonga becomes the fifth Chancellor of Makerere University, following Prof. Ezra Suruma, who served from 2016 to 2024.
