Makerere University guild elections petition tribunal has dismissed a petition challenging the victory of Lubega Vincent Nsamba.
Nsamba was declared last Thursday as the winner of the hotly contested Makerere University 90th guild polls having defeated 15 other opponents.
His victory didn’t sit well with Ariho Edmond, who emerged as the first runner up, having lost to Nsamba with a margin of only four votes.
Ariho petitioned Nsamba’s win last week and the guild elections tribunal sat on Thursday, March 14, 2024 to give its verdict.
The bee has since learnt that the petition filed by Ariho Edmond has been dismissed by the tribunal.
Ariho had cited a few irregularities within the system especially the rate at which votes increased in the last 30 minutes and the ‘uncorrelated’ votes from the college of agricultural sciences.
Having dismissed Ariho’s petition, Lubega Nsamba is expected to officially take oath as the 90th guild president of Makerere University on Monday, March 18, 2024.
Nsamba, who hails from Mitchell hall, succeeds Maseruka Robert who has been serving as the 89th guild president. The two are affiliated to the leading opposition party National Unity Platform (NUP).
