Makerere University police is combing the university streets clean in pursuit of close to 30 students who allegedly jumped police bond. The list consists of mainly 3rd and second year students.
The circular dated 27th November 2015,published by CID wing Makerere University tends to alert all police officers attached to the institution that the listed 27 students mustn’t be cleared for graduation unless they settle their legal scores with police.
Info intimates that the named students are charged with various cases including assault, unlawful participation in illegal assemblies and strikes, sexual assault (attempted rape), and theft
The chief security officer Makerere University, Jackson Mucunguzi confirms reports that majority of the students didn’t honor routine case follow up after they were released on police bond.
“It’s not false, we have students whose criminal files haven’t been closed. The students are charged with participating in violent, vandalism, exam malpractices. We have documentary evidence in the form of visual footage, the long arm of the law beckons!” Jackson Mucunguzi was quoted as saying.
He reiterates that files opened against these students have been forwarded to court following the wise counsel of state attorney.
