Every year Webometrics, the largest academic ranking of higher education institutions in the world, ranks universities across the world two times in January and July.
According to the data collected by the organisation from the beginning of January, Uganda’s oldest university Makerere gained position from the 16th to the 12th position on the African continent and 1082 worldwide where it is right now and it still maintains its position as the best in Uganda followed by the Ankole based Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). On continental level, MUST was put in the 60th position and 2509 on the worldwide.
Top on the African ranking is the University of Cape Town followed by Stellenbosch University, University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Pretoria all from South Africa and Cairo University from Egypt in the sixth position.
